My Teaching Philosophy

I believe singing lessons should be a place where you can grow as a singer, express yourself, and genuinely enjoy making music.

Your voice should feel good.

Vocal health is incredibly important to me. I want my students to learn how to sing with freedom and ease, rather than pushing or straining to reach a certain sound.

We’ll work toward greater clarity, resonance, tone, range, and confidence while paying attention to how your voice feels along the way.

Warming up and cooling down are also an important part of my approach. Through my own experiences as a singer, I’ve learned how much of a difference taking care of your voice before and after singing can make, and I want my students to develop healthy habits they can carry with them throughout their lives.

Your goals shape our lessons.

There is no single reason someone has to take singing lessons.

Maybe you want the confidence to sing at karaoke night. Maybe singing is your weekly creative outlet. Maybe you have an audition coming up. Or maybe you dream of becoming a professional singer or musical theatre performer.

You tell me what you want from your voice, and we’ll work toward it together.

Lessons are tailored to your goals, interests, and level of commitment. If singing is something you do once a week simply because it makes you happy, I’m not going to chase you down about practicing every day! If you come in highly motivated and ready to work, I’ll meet that energy and help you push yourself further.

Sing songs you actually love.

I want you to be excited about the music we work on.

Whenever possible, we’ll work with songs that you choose and genuinely connect with. Together, we’ll break them down and develop practical, systematic strategies for achieving the sound and performance you want.

And because singing is about more than producing beautiful notes, we’ll also explore how to tell the story of a song through your voice, face, body, phrasing, and emotional expression.

I encourage students to take notes and record lessons when appropriate so that you have something to refer back to while practicing between sessions.

A space to learn, play, and reset.

Most importantly, I want lessons to be something you look forward to.

My hope is to create an encouraging environment where you feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, asking questions, and discovering what your voice can do.

Singing can be challenging, but it should also be joyful. I hope students leave lessons not only feeling like they have learned something new, but also feeling more grounded, energized, and excited to sing.

Everyone is welcome.

It is never too early or too late to start singing.

I have experience working with children through Santa Monica Playhouse's Musical Theatre Performance Lab, with teenage performers as a teaching assistant for a Musical Theatre summer program at Boston Conservatory, and with adult students as well.

Whether you're taking your very first singing lesson or working toward professional performance goals, we'll start with where you are now and where you want to go next.
